Wide World of Sports & Entertainment

Leave it to “Bad Guy” Sean Avery to go to his wrestling handbook the day before Wrestlemania and what better stage then MSG. Avery went with the lumber to the back of the head of Tim Thomas (who looks like Vader) as a folding chair was unavailable.

On the subject of Wrestlemania. Rickey Steamboat still has his A-Game, Piper is still hyper and Jimmy Snuka needs to call Frank Costanza about a bro endorsement.

I think we might see the day that there is a WWE PPV in which all matches involve ladders.

With Montreal, Florida and the Rangers battling it out for the final two playoff spots, it makes you wonder if Avery will go full bone head and pick up a penalty in the final minutes of a game to cost the Blue Shirts some valuable points? If I'm Tortorella, I have Avery on the bench in the final 5 minutes.

I guess it's Duck season. Anaheim had a mini-clearance sale around the deadline but yet they refuse to lose of late and they could get into the playoffs ahead of Nashville and St. Louis. If you're San Jose and Detroit you're hoping that Anaheim finishes in 6th, maybe lend them Thornton and Datsyuk for the final week. Must be a loop hole in the NHL rules to allow that to open, just say they're college free agents.

Now onto other birds who's season starts now. (did you like the segway? I know you did) I predict the Blue Jays will go 70-92 this season. Hell I could see the Jays going 22 games below .500 in their own division. Jays haven't played one game yet and I'm looking forward to 2010 when Marcum and McGowan are healthy. 2009 is about the Jays not embarrassing themselves. Yankees will win at least 100 games this season, but with Burnett on that team with a new contract, that's good for two trips to the DL this season, write that down.

This time of year people seem to say, can Detroit win with Chris Osgood. Well they have, they picked up the big trophy last season. Osgood is getting up in years so maybe the NHL should run one of those commercials, “Is this the year that Detroit loses because of their goaltending?”

If you pick up the movie Australia, watch the first hour and a half, then skip the next hour and watch the last half hour. They should put out a director's “cut” edition with the 2 hours I mention and call the shorter version “New Zealand”.

Pittsburgh seems to be getting into Conference Finals shape. Forget Malkin and Crosby, how about Kunitz and Guerin. Not to mention the coach. I wonder if Michel Therrien is hanging out with Barry Melrose putting pins in a Penguins doll? How about some coach of the year votes for Dan Bylsma?
