Jets Draft Preview- Quarterback

A look at some collegiate prospects who may end up being selected by the New York Jets.

Kellen Clemens may be the answer for the New York Jets.  Then again, he may not be.  We won't know how much he learned being on the sidelines last year watching Brett Favre until we see how he plays.

If management doesn't believe Clemens has a future leading this club, expect them to select a quarterback in the draft.  Here's a look at three top prospects at the position:

Matthew Stafford:

University of Georgia

6'3, 225 lbs….Has excellent arm strength and can make every throw…Has a quick release…Is strong and durable…Is an above average athlete and possesses good scrambling ability…Has excellent leadership qualities and is the type of quarterback you build a franchise around…Faced high quality opposition all throughout college and can play in a pro-style offense…Still needs to work on his consistency…Tends to trust his arm too much instead of always thinking the play through…Sometimes takes unnecessary risks

Mark Sanchez:

University of Southern California

6'3, 227 lbs….Outstanding accuracy…Has better than average arm strength and puts a nice touch on the ball…Can make plays with his feet as well…Is highly intelligent and should adapt quickly to the pro game…Has an outstanding work ethic and possesses tremendous leadership qualities…Has good mechanics and still has upside in his game…he does sometimes have trouble throwing the deep ball…questions remain about whether or not he was boosted by having such a talented squad around him…Can occasionally get flustered by a strong pass rush

Josh Freeman:

Kansas State

6'5, 248 lbs….Throws an excellent deep ball…An above average athlete who can gain yards on the run…Is big enough to present problems for tacklers…Has a great work ethic and can be coached at the next level…Is very durable…His game still has room for improvement…Struggles with inconsistency, especially with his mechanics…Tends to rely on his arm too much and will force throws too often…Needs to improve reading defenses
