This morning I woke up and planned to write about the Halos bullpen having lost two straight games to the Athletics after the Angels Opening Day loss. But unfortunately the cruel realities of life have struck the Angels community and put any wins or losses on the back burner.
Angels rookie right-hander Nick Adenhart died early Thursday morning after a car accident in Fullerton, California. University of California-Irvine Medical Center spokesman John Murray said Adenhart died after undergoing surgery. Two others were killed and another was seriously injured in the accident, which involved three vehicles. Authorities were blaming the accident on a motorist who ran a red light with his van and then fled the scene on foot. He was later captured and charged with felony hit-and-run.
Adenhart, 22, made his season debut against Oakland last night, shutting out the A's for six innings in a game the Angels eventually lost, 6-3.
I really don't have anything else to add to this tragic story, I can't even begin to describe my shock at waking up to discover the Angels pitcher from last night is no longer with us.
My prayers are with the Adenhart family and all of the other families involved in this tragic accident, you will forever be a part of the Angels family.
