Derek Holland is in Arlington sooner than later and I’m really pretty shocked. Not only is the Rangers’ bullpen bad, it’s so bad that the team has decided to blow a year of service time on Holland so he can pitch out of the bullpen in April. Holland has had exactly ONE AAA start and only 4 Career starts in AA (including the playoffs). He got shelled in his first Oklahoma start, giving up four runs over four innings. There’s no doubt Holland could use some more seasoning in Oklahoma, but the Rangers have apparently chosen to forego a year of service from Derek Holland jus t so our bullpen doesn’t suck. Given the fact that Tom Hicks is seriously considering selling a minority in the Rangers, you’d think service time would be a priority. Holland will be tremendous long-term for the Rangers, but I would’ve waited at least until June.
Last night’s loss against the Royals was a slight improvement, with an ace pitcher holding the bats under control. Losing 2-0 games to a pitcher like Zack Greinke is a lot more tolerable after the managerial and defensive blunders from the past week. Here’s hoping it gets turned around in a hurry.
