Jets Draft Preview- Running Backs

A look at some of the prospects that may end being selected by the New York Jets

On paper, the running back position is not really a glaring area of need for the Jets.  However, with Thomas Jones turning 31 this summer, he cannot be expected to carry the load much longer.  Leon Washington, while a dynamic change-of-pace guy, has not proven he can be a 25 carry per game running back and, truthfully, his size makes the concept a bit dubious.

Therefore, the idea of the Jets selecting a running back with their first round pick is not as outlandish as some might think.  Here's a look at a few of the prospects they could be targeting:

Knowshon Moreno

University of Georgia

5'11, 217 lbs….Has a natural quickness and hits the hole with authority….Is strong enough to break tackles….Runs effectively both between the tackles and to the outside….Excellent receiver out of the backfield….Has good blocking skills….Has a great work ethic and is very competitive….Possesses only average speed….Has only two years of experience at the college level….May not be able to carry an NFL starter's workload.

Chris Wells

University of Ohio

6'1, 235 lbs….Has a great blend of size and speed….Strong downhill runner….Very explosive and can break away in the secondary….Gets stronger as the game goes on….Has very good patience and instincts….Has Good balance and can change directions in a hurry….Has some durability concerns….Not a very good receiver….His blocking skills are only adequate….Must exhibit more toughness at the NFL level.

Donald Brown

University of Connecticut

5'11, 210 lbs….A patient runner with excellent instincts….Possesses great lateral movement….Makes a lot of big plays….Has great feet and can be very shifty….Has good receiving skills….Is one of the more intelligent players in the draft….Has maxed out his size and frame….Has only one year of experience as a starter….Needs more strength in his blocking.
