If a roller-coaster of emotion and intensity is what you're looking for in a series, look no further than the current Canes-Devils match up.
Talk about crazy. The Hurricanes came out tonight and took total and firm control of the game, setting themselves up for a big win with a 3-0 lead midway through the second period.
Case closed, right?
Wrong. New Jersey, on a big break-away late in the second, seized momentum and never looked back, scoring three huge goals and tying the game about half-way through the second. Advantage: Devils. Looks like it's game over…
… or not… Frantic play by both teams and some great saves at both ends of the ice, and this gamelooks to be heading into overtime with only… oh… thirty seconds left in the third.
Overtime hockey in 5…4….3…2…1…GOAL!
Yes folks, with 0.2 seconds remaining on the clock, Jussi Jokinen puts the puck in the net and the Hurricanes even up the series at 2.
Okay, so now I know Marty Brodeur is a little upset (as is his biggest fan, Mr. Chico Resch. Can anyone actually stand to listen to this guy talk? It's embarrassing as hell.) about the contact made between him and Jokinen mere seconds before the goal, but really… Does he really have a case?
Marty was about a foot to a foot and a half outside the top of his crease, and had a few seconds to get back into position so really, he doesn't have much call to complain.
In any case, we now wait oh so anxiously for Thursday night and what promises to be another great chapter in what is quickly becoming a classic series for these clubs.
Until then, Caniacs, we rejoice in the splendor of all that is Chad Larose. Adieu.
