In what could have been the greatest 1-0 game in playoff history Martin Brodeur bounced back from his anger to steal a win for his team and erase the scary memory of the 0.2 second loss of 2 nights earlier.
44 saves is what it took from Martin Brodeur to set his career high in saves in the playoffs and to draw him into a tie with Patrick Roy (again) for all time shutouts in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Not to be forgotten in this game was the goalie at the other end of the ice Cam Ward, who had a magnificent 42 save performance for his Hurricanes. Zach Parise was absolutely robbed and Brendan Shanahan robbed multiple times on his patented cut into center ice from the off wing move, but his biggest save of the night came off a Jay Pandolfo breakaway.
David Clarkson was the only guy to cash in on this evening on a powerplay off an Andy Greene shot from the right point to tip it past the unbeatable Cam Ward. A grinder goal from a talented gritty player with great hand eye coordination.
The Devils blocked 22 shots and played till the end buzzer this time with an incredible team performance and Jay Pandolfo made play after play tonight defensively. Paul Martin and Johnny Oduya’s tonight were unbelievable they controlled the tempo at many points of the game and had a few end to end rushes. This was an incredible team win but Martin Brodeur came up big when he had to for his team to help preserve this win and to give the Devils the all important 3-2 series lead for which 25 of the last 27 series that were tied at 2 the team to win game 5 has won the series.
The Hurricanes played a fantastic game tonight but they were bettered by the Devils on a wild evening that saw 44 saves on one end and 42 saves on the other end! This was one of the best 2 goalie performance I have seen in my years of watching playoff hockey. The teams will now get a much needed extra day off and will not get back at it until Sunday. What a game!!!
Let’s Go Devils!!!!!!!
