The weather was hot in Cincinnati on Sunday. So were the Reds.
Jay Bruce kicked out the jams, hitting two home runs, knocking in four. Joey Votto drummed up two doubles and added three RBI's. Micah Owings conducted a fantastic pitching performance for his first win of 2009, pounding the Braves 8-2. Owings also added two hits, including a double, and scored a run, thus insuring once again, he gets as much press as possible for doing everything except actually running the team and selling beer in the stands.
Chris Dickerson got a mental health day from Dusty Baker to hopefully help him relax and break out of his slow start.
The Reds, who returned from a successful 7-3 road trip, were hoping to keep the momentum going at home, but dropped the first two games. Still, they are now 10-8 and only 2.5 games out of first, giving the fans hope this team can make some waves in the current volatile Central Division.
They will now face the Houston Astros for a three-game set. Roy Oswalt comes in with a 23-1 record against the Reds, but will counter with Johnny Cueto who is coming off a blistering performance against the Cubs.
Sunday was also a great day for their minor leaguers. Homer Bailey struck out a career-high 15 batters in 6 1/3 innings, giving up four hits, two runs and two walks for the Louisville Bats.
