After a week of sitting and waiting, the Bruins know who their next opponent will be.
With a remarkable comeback in the final two minutes, the Carolina Hurricanes upset the New Jersey Devils in Newark tonight. With goals by Jussi Jokinen and Eric Staal in hte final 1:20 of the third period, the Devils fate was sealed. With the Hurricane win, this sets up the final parings in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
So it's the (1) Bruins against the (6) Hurricanes starting in Boston and the (2) Washington Capitals will host the (4) Pittsburgh Penguins. Early reports have the Bruins at home on Friday night. Once a schedule is finalized, I will post it here.
In the West, the #1 overall seed San Jose Sharks were upset by the (8) Anaheim Ducks. With another San Jose playoff loss, the #2 overall seed, Boston Bruins have gained home ice as long as they play hockey this spring through the Stanley Cup Finals. Out west, the playoff seeds look like (2) Detroit Red Wings host the (8) Anaheim Ducks while the (3) Vancouver Canucks host (4) Chicago Black Hawks
The Providence Bruins opened their second round series tonight at home against the Worcester Sharks. Providence won game 1 with a goal by their captain Jeremy Reich 6:19 into overtime. With other events scheduled in both Providence and Worcester, game two will not be played until May 6 – and that game will be played in Worcester. The series alternates on a game by game basis and looks like this:
