Ed-win some, Ed-lose some

In news concerning players beginning with “ED”…
Edinson Volquez gave us this gem on Wednesday against the Astros:
8 IP, H, BB, 6 K, 0 R, 106 pitches, win
Now THAT is the Volquez everyone has been waiting for. Total dominance. Only three Astros made it on base all night, with Miguel Tejada getting the furthest with a double in the first inning.
With the win, the Reds avoided the sweep and stopped the longest streak of wins at a visiting team's home since the Astros were known as the Colt 45's… that is not entirely true, but three years feels like an eternity.
Edwin Encarnacion was placed on he 15-day DL with a chipped bone in his wrist, thus would explain his incredibly slow start to the season. In addition to Edwin's slump, Brandon Phillips has also not been able to find his groove, and he brought up the local media's fixation to the said slides before Wednesday's game. He saw a correlation between the Reds not winning and the media focusing more on him and Edwin, and how it's starting to effect the rest of the team.
From the Dayton Daily News:
“We were winning, but ever since you guys have been calling people out on the team, worrying about me instead of worrying about the team winning. You can write whatever you want about me. It don’t bother me… You can write anything you want about the bad things, just make sure you don’t write it real big, make it the big issue.”
Next stop for Brandon Phillips: newspaper editor.
The silver lining with EE having some time off now means that the Reds can get a great at their hot prospect Adam Rosales filling in at 3B. In addition, Laynce Nix is doing a nice job subbing in for Chris Dickerson who may be ready by Friday's opener against the Pirates.
The Reds finish April with a record of 11-10.
