I have cleared my schedule over the next couple weeks to tune in to May baseball games?
I have an okay social calendar on weekends, but of late I find myself running to the TV to tune it and see what the Dodgers are going to do to top the previous night. They have become must see TV in May.Now come August, September, I pay a lot more attention to baseball season. However with this Dodger team winning again in walk off fashion, they are forcing me to watch every game right now as they look to break the 1946 Brooklyn teams' start of 9-0 at home.
Not only are they winning dramatically, but they have a different hero each night as teams refuse to let Manny beat them late in the game. These one run games are also giving them great practice for the post season, as we know most October games are normally closer games.
You have to like the chances of making it 10-0 at home with 4-0 Chad Billingsley on the mound. He looks to follow up some great weekend performances, Friday night's Clayton Kershaw (for a nice article on Kershaw's maturity, check out Los Angeles Times Kurt Streeter's article in today's sports) outing matching Jake Peavy and then last night Randy Wolf only giving up 2 hits, one run before getting wild in the 6th.
The Dodgers are not only dominating division play with 16 wins against the NL West, but they also have the biggest division lead of any leader at 4.5 games.
I know take it easy, it is early May, someone could get hurt, the bullpen is logging to many innings, Russell Martin in only hitting .224. Well for now I cannot stop watching, I'll take it as it comes as these exciting Dodgers are playing baseball the right way. You can be sure I will be watching today at 1pm.
Jeff Weaver will take McDonald's spot in the rotation.
Lefthander Brent Leach was called up from Double-A.
Furcal has reached base safely in every one of his 22 games.
