There are a lot of reasons to be feeling quite good right now in Cincinnati. (No, we did not just come back from eating a 5-Way at Skyline, but that sounds perfect right about now.)
Going in to tonight’s series finale with the Arizona Diamondbacks:
The Reds sport a 12-5 mark, ranking them best in the majors.
The starting pitchers are workhorses. They lead the NL with 205 IP and second to the Toronto Blue Jays in the majors. And while we’re at it, they also rank 1st in Wins and a 7th in ERA in the majors.
How about the cabooses? 3rd in ERA and saves in the NL
Rookie Adam Rosales has been doing a fine job at 3B filling in for Edwin Encarnacion who is on the DL. He currently has a 5 game hitting streak and batting close to .300.
The month of May couldn’t have come quick enough for Brandon Phillips. After a horrible April, he is batting .386 with four home runs and 15 runs batted in. He’s upped his average to .265, right where we expect him to be.
Joey Votto has been a monster: .374 AVG – 4 HR – 26 RBI – .477 OBP – .579 SLG.
Even with his recent bout of the flu and dizziness, he continues to to be a major factor in their ever improving offense.
All of this plus a weekend series win against the division-leading St. Louis Cardinals.
The Reds now sit in second place, one game back.
It’s good to be in Cincinnati right now.
(Especially for the chili.)
