Sweat from Mini Camp

The Ravens opened their first mini-camp of the off-season this past weekend, seeking to fill some immediate needs.

With four potential receivers making an appearance it is clearly evident that they are moving past a trade for Anquan Bouldin.  Jerry Porter, Tab Perry and Kelley Washington all came for a team tryout.  It is no secret that Porter has the best hands of these fellas, but it was Washington who made the greatest impression in camp.  Washington made the most of his tryout with great catches, not to mention his special team abilities.  Word is the Ravens have reached out to Washington to initiate contract negotiations.  The wide receiver position continues to be a great concern with Derrick Mason not being able to practice due to his recovery from shoulder surgery.  Mason is guaranteeing that he will be ready for the 1st game of the season, but training camp will remain an uncertainty.

Also spotted sweating it up at mini camp was Tavares Gooden, ILB. This is extremely important for the Ravens as he is expected to replace Bart Scott.  Gooden missed last year with a hip injury, but looked to moving quick and getting after the ball.

The “I Can Kick it Farther” duel has begun for the Ravens.  Steve Hauschka and UDFA Graham Gano battled it out under practice conditions and simulated game-winner conditions with a hefty wind.  Word on the corner is that this battle could last all summer, because they both have good legs.

On the MIA sweat list was Terrell Suggs.  This equation is all too familiar around the NFL.  No long term contract = no site of him at mini camp.  This should not be surprising to the Ravens as he did the same thing last year and trained at home in Arizona.  New long term contract = training camp.
