Billboards, Apologies, and the Philles

I was driving down the 605 the other day and saw two billboards of Manny promoting the Dodgers.

If you ask me those billboards should be taken down till July.

It has been reported that Manny may fly down to Florida to apologize to his teamates. Let me ask you this, how is he going to apologize?

“Guys, sorry for taking a drug which helped me become better and take you guys to the playoffs last year.  I should not have taken them, which probably would have led me to play less and maybe we do or don't make the playoffs.” “Cool, anyone want to go to dinner?”

Do you know what the odds are of someone in the lockeroom having done/doing steroids as well, how do they sit there with a straight face?

At any rate, the Dodgers took two of three from the Phillies this week without Manny, pretty good way to start the week.  Matt Kemp had 5 hits in the two wins and Russell Martin has found his stroke, average up to .289.  Joe Torre also made sure to let the press know that Jason Werth stole his four bases off the Dodger pitchers', not Martin's defense.

At the current rate, Chad Billingsley will be in the Cy Young argument.  Today he outpitched Cole Hamels, which was not easy, striking out 9 and giving up only 3 hits.  Speaking of Cy Young, yes Jonathan Broxton blew the save, but he struck out the side.  Boy hitters cannot touch his fastball this year, what a treat to watch. In his last 10 outings he has at least 2 K's in 9 of those games, normally only pitching one inning.

Again, the Dodgers do not need to play great ball to win to tread water while Manny is gone.  In fact, three of the NL West teams combined record in their last 10, 8-22.

Next up for the Dodgers, three @ Florida, and then home for the Mets, without an off day.  So basically the Dodgers have to fly across country after the day game on Sunday, then right back at it on Monday vs the Mets, brutal.

In some classy news, Charlie Manuel selected Joe Torre has part of his All-Star coaching staff to be held in St. Louis.  Torre managed and played for the Cardinals.
