A new manager in LA?

When Joe Torre was coaching the Yankees, he would start off spring training the same every year by saying, “I am not using Mariano Rivera more than one inning at a time this year.”

Then come April, less than one month into the season, with a game against the Red Sox, Torre would trot out Rivera in the 8th!

So when Torre said he was going to rest Jonathan Broxton last night, I chuckeled. But Joe stuck to his word last night and let Ramon Troncoso pitch his way out of a bases loaded jam to pick up the save.  He saved a brilliant performance from Randy Wolf, who pitched 7 innings only giving up one run,as the Dodgers defeated the Cubs again.

The Dodgers scored again in the first inning, they are league leaders in this category. (reason why below)

Obviously the Dodgers swept the Rockies, to say the least.  My friends have a term called “slumpbuster.”  It refers to when a guy cannot meet a girl in a long time, a slump, he lowers his standards, that girl becomes known as the slumpbuster.

That is kind of what Colorado is, if you are a losing streak, great place to visit.  The Dodgers pounded out 43 hits and 31 runs for the three game series.  That is almost as many hits as the number of one quarter's worth of fouls in the Nugget-Laker series.

Juan Pierre in the 3 game set, 8 hits, 5 runs scored, 7 RBI's.  That is your leadoff man. In the last week, Juan is hitting .412 and getting on base for the season 47% of the time.  Not hard to figure out why the Dodgers lead the league in scoring in the 1st inning.

The only negative of the series was that starter Eric Stults walked 7 in 4 and 1/3.  Otherwise Eric Mitlon got his first win by giving up one, in Colorado.  Kershaw won his 3rd  game of the year, but has certainly pitched better than his 3-3 record.

There is some talk going on about Manny being eligible for the All-Star game since he comes back July 3rd.  Here is my take, if the fans vote him in, it is the fans game. I will not comment on the game deciding home field, because sometimes commishener's make dumb moves, this is one of them.

At any rate, let's say Manny is voted in. He could win back a lot of fans by giving his position up, saying he cheated and does not deserve to be in the game.  If I am his PR man, I am all over this.  However right now, maybe we'll see Juan Pierre in left field!

How unsettling is this, the Padres reeled off 11 straight wins, and still trail the Dodgers by 9 games.  Crazy right?  The Dodgers have helped themselves by going 8-2 in the last 10.

The Padres and Dodgers face off again for a two game set on June 9 and 10 at Chavez Ravine.
