While Trevor Ariza has 5 teams vying for his rights, he’s having a good time – doing a photo shoot for Signature La Direct Magazine on the Roosevelt pool deck in downtown Los Angeles

Only in LA
NBA free agent Trevor Ariza weighs his options.
Where else can an untested player go from the injury bench in his first season to the starting line-up in the Western Conference playoffs barely a year later? Only in LA.
July 1st marked the day that Trevor Ariza became a free agent, ostensibly unshackled from his contract with the Championship winning Lakers, and where else would he choose to while away the day than at the rooftop pool of the elegant Roosevelt Building, surrounded by sweltering sunshine and long-legged models?
Only in LA.
Signature Magazine was fortunate enough to spend such a momentous afternoon with Ariza, fresh from the success of the season and facing a sticky summer of contract negotiations. All of LA is itching to know where in the world Ariza would rather be than the city of angels next year should the Lakers fail to make him an offer he can’t refuse, but the soft-spoken 24-year-old remains enigmatic. “I’m from LA, but I understand that it’s a business; it’s time to put my business hat on.”
In a city that values youth and beauty, Ariza is in the privileged position of hitting his stride with the best years of his career ahead of him, still in the process of maturing and honing his game. Having won a state championship in high school in LA, Ariza believed his days of playing in front of the home crowd were behind him when he was drafted to the Knicks in 2004. When asked how it felt to win an NBA title back home, Ariza enthuses, “I never thought I’d play in LA again after being drafted by New York; coming back and winning is like a dream come true.”
Ariza has previously voiced his interest in staying in the city he grew up in (he is an alumnus of Westchester High School and spent a shortlived season at UCLA before being snapped up by the New York Knicks), but admits that the decision rests with the Lakers’ General Manager Mitch Kupchak, who may hesitate to pay the big bucks Ariza is now worth after his stellar playoff performance in the current economic climate.
But where else can you hit Katsuya after a game at the Staples center? Where else can you rub shoulders with Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio whilst chilling out courtside? Where else can you win NBA Championship in front of your hometown crowd? For Trevor Ariza, the answer should be clear.
Only in LA.
“LA has great restaurants, nightlife and the beach. I love all of it.”
