Out of athletes in the four major team sports, hockey players seem the most like us.
They're relatively low profile and unrecognizable due to the fact that they wear helmets and the league's television ratings are so low they made poker a spectator sport. In the largest American markets, all but the top superstars can walk safely down the streets surrounding their arenas without fear of being accosted for autographs. But when Alexander Ovechkin steps foot in Russia he is treated like a czar, and photographic evidence helps me remember exactly how much of a badass Ovie is. Ovechkin, Semin, and Fedorov partied this past weekend at “The Paradise” in Russia, and I hate my life. More pics at Puck Daddy (where I saw it) and Alex Ovetjkin (which I'm jealous of).
