The Mets Should Not Be Giving Up!

Lets hope the Mets don't allow Luis Castillo slipping down the dugout steps set the tone for the remainder of the season.  Its do or die time, not time to start a fire sale, as ESPN's Tim Kurkjian suggests.

Firstly, Kurkjian's comments stating as fact that Mets 09 season is done and its time to trade away veterans for young players centered on the reputed deals of Carlos Delgado and Billy Wagner, Mets have have played little or not at all this season respectively.  If that's what the organization has planned, then that's fine with me.  These guys haven't contributed in 09 and their respective returns are not going to change the season.  So great, get someone good Omar.

Furthermore the rumor on the more positive fan-based Mets Blog is that the Mets will make a waiver claim on Alex Rios of the Jays.  Great idea!

As for what's left of 2009, call me naive but I actually believe that with the right attitude adjustment a team consisting of David Wright, Johan Santana, Francisco Rodriguez and a cast of role players could actually get hot and allow the Mets to string together a winning streak.

Yes its a long shot, but this Mets fan believes its essential to the maturation of the above three that the organization put their shoulder behind the against-all-odds 2009 push.  The effort at least gives the big three the chance to go for the gusto, and an opportnity to step up in the leadership department.  Should the Mets start trading vets (in the current lineup – not counting Delgado and Wagner) then 2009 is over and I fear the stagnation of the team could cast a dark shadow on the teams future.

So go 2009 moonshot…until further notice anyway.
