Chirps from the Nest

The Ravens training camp, as with most teams around the league, has become a battle field of the walking wounded. As training camp stumbles to a close on Saturday, the Ravens have some key injuries heading into their second pre-season contest with the New York Jets. Here’s a look at the broke-down list:
CB Samari Role is suffering from a neck injury that had him seeing 2 specialists. Unfortunately, the featured nickel back is on the PUP (physically unable to perform list) with an unknown return date.
WR Mark Clayton is still having trouble with his hammy. The hamstring is giving him more trouble than expected, but Coach Harbaugh seems to think he will be ready by the season opener.
LB Terrell Suggs is on the mend with a heel injury. This will be the second season that Suggs has not participated in Training Camp leading some in the blogosphere to believe the injury is a farce or something more serious such as an achilles injury.
In other news from the Nest, the kicking war remains strong between Steven Hauschka and Graham Gano, but a starter has yet to be named for the August 24th game.
DE/LB rookie Paul Kruger drew some fire from former head coach Rex Ryan when he was given former DE’s Michael McCrary’s number 99 jersey. In an expletive statement, Ryan felt the need to chime in with his thoughts about a rookie who has yet to prove anything getting a two-time pro bowler’s jersey. Keep ya trap shut, Ryan, and worry about keeping Kruger off of QB Mark Sanchez.
In the rumor mill, there a rumblings about the Raven's interests in the unhappy Bronco, WR Brandon Marshall. Joe Flacco needs a deep threat and Marshall could open up the offense.
The depth at the linebacker position could see a loss of either second-year Jameel McClain or undrafted rookie Dannelle Ellerbe. Both have performed well in training camp, but one could be put out on the waiver wire as the pre-season progresses.
