Rookie Arrested; Profiling Accusations

Somewhere in the middle of two stories, there is the truth as to why rookie linebacker Anthony “Tony” Fein was arrested on Sunday night while at an Inner Harbor restaurant.

According to reports, security officers reported to police seeing a silver object being passed around by Fein and his crew.  The silver object was reported as a firearm but turned out to be a cell phone.  According to police, Sgt. Joseph Donato approached Fein and asked him to stand up, but allegedly Fein refused.
According to police, he was asked a second time, stood up and pushed Sgt. Donato in the chest.

Now, Fein's agent, Milton Dee Hobs is claiming the arrest was the result of profiling.  Hobbs believes that Fein was approached by the police because he was wearing a sweatsuit and a hoodie.

To add further color to the incident, the Inn Harbor has been on heightened security as a result of gang-related shootings earlier this month and earlier incidents in the year.

This situation brings up the touchy topic of racial profiling that is prevalent in our society whether we choose to believe it or not.  Police are scrutinized, race relations in the community are broken and we begin to question how far we truly have come since the 1960's.  It also brings up some more compelling questions:

Did the police jump to conclusions in this situation because of the way Fein was dressed?  Why the hell was this fool rocking a hoodie and a sweatsuit doing his best impression of Wee-Bey from The Wire?  Should the cops have trusted the word of Old Otis the security guard from Martin?  Was Fein, a former Iraqi soldier, carrying an outdated Cingular Wireless contraption or a garage door opener circa 1993?  Did Fein not understand the rookie symposium's new campaign: STAY YO' A** AT HOME!!!  Lastly, did Fein somehow think he was drafted by the Bengals thereby believing it was a requirement to appear on the morning's police blotter?

Son, I'm just saying…
