The San Francisco 49ers improved to 3-0 on the preseason after defeating the Dallas Cowboys 20-13 in a tight game at Cowboys Stadium. Shaun Hill's injury suffered earlier in the week did not affect his game status, as he got action in Saturday night's action. During the course of the season, I will get my game recaps up right after the 49ers play and kick into gear.
After being named the 49ers starter and getting injured, Shaun Hill still managed to start the game against the Dallas Cowboys. Hill was roughed up on the first drive as some bad penalties and forces throws led to the drive to stall, forcing the away team to punt. After both teams failed to score in the first quarter, Dallas opened up the scoring as Felix Jones punched in a three yard touchdown run. Hill was unable to get anything going at that point as the 49ers went three-and-out. Nick Folk gave the Cowboys a 10-0 lead as the Dallas runningbacks were impressing with the combo of Marian Barber and Felix Jones. Shaun Hill finally delievered when it mattered towards the end of the half. The team had to run a two minute drill and the highlights of the drive were both from Hill to Arnaz Battle. One of which was a 17 yard catch and run and the other Hill launched 19 yards to Battle on the sidelines. The 49ers managed to drill a field goal before the end of the half to cut the deficet to 3-10.
Rookie Glenn Coffee was impressing head coach, Mike Singletary as he had some solid runs and he had plenty of hard earned yards. Rookie quarterback Nate Davis played much of the second half as Alex Smith was still hurting from the strained thumb on his throwing hand. The rookie went 10/15 for 132 yards and operated clutch drives, including the final 49er ten points, which eventually led to a victory. Dallas was only able to muster up one, short field goal which is the second time this game they blew a chance in the redzone and only came out with three points. 49ers rookie runningback Kory Sheets finished off beating the Cowboys in the final minute as he rushed up the middle for a nine yard, game winning touchdown run to bury the Cowboys and keep heads turning as the 49ers approach the NFL regular season. Sheets finished the game with 42 yards on 11 carries. If Sheets can keep this up, the 49ers could have quite some depth at the runningback position which is crucial to competing for the NFC West. They could really use Crabtree this time around..
