You get the Detroit Lions travleling to the Big Easy to take on the New Orleans Saints. In 2008 Detoit became the first NFL team to go 0-16 in a regular season. They are looking towards rookie and the #1 overall draftpick quaterback Matthew Stafford to get them back into the win column and bring relevance back to a team who has been nothing more than a blip on the radar screen since the retirement of Barry Sanders in 1998.
Then you have the New Orleans Saints who are coming off two years of disappointment after going to the 2006 NFC Championship game where they played and got beat 39-14 by the Chicago Bears. The Saints though have huge expectations coming into this year with the return of Drew Brees who is coming off a 5000 yard passing season (the second only in NFL history along with Dan Marino).
Both teams will be going in seperate directions this year as Detroit will be looking to just win a couple games and get Matthew Stafford much needed NFL game experiance. While the Saints will be looking to do the NFC South turnaround and go from last to first in the 2009 season.
We will wait and see how Brees and the boys come to play this year and Sunday at home against Detroit will be the stepping stone for hopefully a great season.
