A few things you should know about the Texans and Jets going into their Week 1 clash.
Bush League: If you believe Dunta Robinson, the Texans have never had a defensive coordinator worthy of respect, until now with Frank Bush. His exact words were, “For the first time, we have a defensive coordinator we want to play for,” according to the Houston Chronicle. His players think he is fun and respect that he came into the league as a player, for the Houston Oilers, and worked his way through the coaching ranks after his playing career ended. The defensive side of the ball should be fun to watch because of Bush and, on the other side of the field, new Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan, who as DC in Baltimore called his scheme “organized chaos.”
Got a little Captain in them: The captains were named for this week's game. Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson will represent the offense. Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans will represent the defense. Kris Brown and Kevin Bentley will represent the special teams. These six were voted on by their teammates. Each week Coach Kubiak will name a captain of his choosing. This week is linebacker Zac Diles.
Whiteout: The Texans are going to wear white jerseys and pants this week and are asking all fans attending the game to wear white as well. It's different. It's stark. It's bold. I'm not sure it's going to look good, but we'll see. I also have no eye for color, which part of the reason I married an artist.
Roster Moves: Dunta Robinson will start at corner and last year's starter Fred Bennett will resume that role on the other side…Rookie training camp darlings Brice McCain and Glover Quin will play dime and nickel corner, respectively…Veteran Nick Ferguson will start at safety in place of the injured Eugene Wilson. If you'll remember, Wilson was hurt two Mondays ago against the Vikings when Brett Favre hit him with a dirty below the knees block for which Favre was later fined…Rookie Linebacker Brian Cushing will start on the strong side after missing most of camp with an injury…The team released running back Andre Hall to make room on the roster for Dunta Robinson
