Let It Fly Flacco

The Ravens opened their season with a new look offense, courtesy of offensive coordinator, CC (Cam Cameron), as they produced a nice 38-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.  Joe Flacco came out throwing 26 of 43 for 307 yards, while the rest of the offense contributed to a record setting 501 yards for the day.  The Ravens balanced the attack with Ray Rice eating up the field for 108 yards and Willis McGahee contributing 44 yards.

Flacco’s performance may have been the highlight of the game but the defense only allowed the Chiefs a little over 20 minutes of possession and 188 total yards.  DT Kelly Gregg and LB Ray Lewis led the team with six tackles each.

As for the special teams play, they looked to be rather “special” indeed on quite a few plays.  The kicking game was inept as P Sam Hoch’s punt from the end-zone was blocked and recovered for a touchdown by Jon McGraw.  In addition, K Steve Hauschka missed a 41-yard field goal, but managed to make a 44-yard attempt on the Raven’s first drive.  Overall, the special teams play will need to improve if the Ravens expect to win in San Diego next week.
