How bout them Cowboys?

Dallas rolls over Tampa Bay for first win of the year
The Dallas Cowboys went into Tampa bay and beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-21 to open up the 2009 campaign.
For those of you who read my pre-game blog, I was pretty close but what matters was this blogger predicted a win and a win the Dallas Cowboys got to start the season at 1-0.
The Cowboys offence was running on all cylinders. Dallas quarterback, Tony Romo had a career day and used all of his receivers and backs to assist in achieving that career day. Romo hopes to have many of those days as we enter into the “Terrell Owens-less” Dallas Cowboys. Romo threw for 353 passing yards which is his career best and also hooked-up with wide receiver Patrick Crayton for an 80 yard score which was Romo’s career longest completion. Not bad for an opening day.
The Dallas running game was a little on the shy side but any football fan will know when you are scoring points through the air and showing success, the running game will take second fiddle. It will be the same when the running game gets running on all cylinders; the passing game will take second fiddle. The objective is to win and whatever it takes whether that be passing or running, just get the win.
My pre-game blog also focused on time of possession (TOP). The Cowboys actually were beat on TOP and only held the ball for 26:28 of the game but when you are striking quick you score points and that actually means you don’t hold onto the ball as much as you would running the ball and keeping your offence on the field.
The Dallas defence was not quite what I wrote about in my pre-game blog and I hope this does not become a trend. The D did not get one sack, they showed some gaps but they did hold their own and allowed the offence enough time to score and get the win. I hope in close games the D can create some turnovers and give the high-firing offence more time on the field to score some points.
I know no one really talks about kickers in the NFL and well some have appointed them as their franchise players, I want to make mention of Dallas kicker Nick Folk. Albeit Romo had his career day, Folk was 2-2 in field goals and 4-4 in extra points (10 points in total for Folk). It was timing as the two field goals were the first two scores of the game. Folk did a great job and more should take note of the role of a kicker in the NFL (any comments there are appreciated).
A tid-bit of info/411. The Dallas Cowboys are an NFL best on opening day. After yesterday’s win, the Cowboys are 34-15-1 on opening day. Maybe I should have put this in the pre-game blog for you gamblers. (sorry)
A great Cowboy win, a great way to start this season. Cowboys head home for their home opener on the 20th, stay tuned and hope to see everyone back soo
