Gang Green safety talks tough, but can he back it up?
The war of words between the Jets and the Patriots just continues to get uglier.
In an article that appeared today in New York's Daily News, Rhodes was quoted as saying that he wanted the Jets to “go out there and try to embarrass [the Patriots].” He also contends that the Jets will “hit Brady more than six times [the amount he was hit by Buffalo]. I promise you that.”
These words sound tough, but they also speak to an inferiority complex that the Jets clearly have in terms of dealing with Brady and Co. It's great to have a goal to go out and beat a rival, but when was the last time New York did that? Sure, they beat up on Houston, but this is a whole different ballgame…literally.
The return of suspended DE Shaun Ellis should bolster the pass rush and shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis should at least limit Randy Moss' productivity. The big questions is, though, whether or not the Jets have anyone capable of sticking with Wes Welker and keeping him from moving the chains or any way to stifle the creativity of Brady.?
Rhodes had better hope his words don't come back bite him. I understand that “humble pie” is rather bland and unappetizing.
