The Dallas Cowboys will play their 2009 home opener against the New York ‘football’ Giants. This game also marks the first ever regular season game at the Dallas Cowboys new stadium. Game time is 8:20pm EST and I can almost bet there will be camera flashes a flashing come introduction and kick-off. I am pretty jealous of anyone who will be in attendance on Sunday. I will comment a little on the stadium later in this blog.
The Cowboys record in home openers is 34-14-1 and this Sunday’s tilt is not going to be the easiest for the Cowboys to increase that record. This is not like any regular season match up, this is the Dallas Cowboys VS the New York Giants, division rivalries, these two teams don’t like each anymore then the Cowboys, Eagles match ups so it will be quite the game come kick-off. I can guarantee the intensity level will be Super Bowl like.
The Cowboys played well against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the season opener but how well? they won, yes, they moved the ball but there were holes and those holes were on defence and if Dallas cannot contain the Giants running game this could be a long night for the Cowboy D. The Giants pose a bigger threat than the Bucs did.
Both teams on paper are very identical.
–Passing game-two great quarterbacks in Romo and Manning so I give it a tie
–running game-again two excellent running games but I give a slight edge to the Cowboys for a more diverse running game and having more RB’s to utilize.
–Receiving game-I have to give this one to the Cowboys but Giants QB Manning did use 7 different receivers in their season opener so this could be another tie.
–Defence-can’t tell a lie here and have to give the edge to the Giants. I only hope the Dallas ‘D’ can step it up a notch, fill holes/gaps and keep the Giants offence off the field.
Comments encouraged on the above.
Both teams are relatively healthy so Sunday night should bring out the best players for this game. No predictions but I do like the Cowboys in a very close game. Where is might come down to is special teams, run-backs, punting, field-goals, turnovers.
Giants RB, Brandon Jacobs was heard saying earlier this week that they (the Cowboys) scheduled the wrong team as their home opener, “they should’ve put Detroit in their instead of us” Jacobs was reported saying.
Let’s talk a little about new Cowboy stadium:
–1.5 billion, YES, billion.
– Dallas owner is expecting the game to reach the highest attendance figure in the history of professional football with that figure reaching well into 6 figures, that is over 100,000 people attending the game. That is more than some cities.
–worlds largest video board, hanging similar to a hockey arena scoreboard and centrally located above the Cowboy star at mid-field. Now the NFL has stated that any ball that hits the board will be an ‘immediate whistle, replay of down, no time taken off the clock’. I guess first lets hope no punts actually hit the board and if so no players get injured in the eventuality of a punt hitting the board. Player safety is key I say anyway. (comments)
Enjoy the game everyone and I look forward to comments, suggestions, there is a history of these two teams, some one has to have something to say, whether you are a Cowboy fan or not, lets' here what you have to say.
FYI-Cowboys have the most expensive ticket in the NFL. Average ticket price is $159.65US well the league average is $74.99US, I guess someone has to pay for the new stadium….
