A preview of the AFC East showdown between Gang Green and their biggest rivals, the New England Patriots.
Spetember 20, 1pm
Giants Stadium, E. Rutherford, New Jersey
Keys to Success:
1. Protect Sanchez with running game- Bill Belichick has likely been game-planning for months and licking his chops at the prospect of facing a rookie quarterback like Sanchez. Rest assured, he will have multiple defensive schemes designed to confuse the heck out of the youngster. The Jets must establish a strong run game early and limit the amount of pressure placed on him.
2. Involve Keller- The last time Dustin Keller played against New england, he grabbed eight balls for 87 yards. He is one of those rare tight ends who has the speed and ability to stretch the field. As the Patriots will be concentrating on shutting down security blanket Jerricho Citchery, Keller must step into the void and give the Jets a consistent option to throw to.
1. Get to Brady- The Patriots offensive potentcy starts and ends with Brady. The Jets hired a defensive minded coach with an eye towards improving the pass rush. In order to win, Gang Green's front seven must place consistent pressure on Brady and limit his effectiveness.
2. Blanket Welker- Cornerback Darrelle Revis will cover Randy Moss all game and has been successful in at least blunting his impact in the past. Welker is the danger here as his ability to get free and provide Brady with an outlet when he's in trouble allows the Patriots to keep moving the chains. The Jets will need to jam Welker hard at the line of scrimmage and cut off his routes to prevent him from keeping drives alive.
Notes- Coach Rex Ryan recorded a voicemail message that was sent to all season ticket holders, asking them to lend their loudest vocal support to the effort on Sunday…The Jets will get DE Shaun Ellis back after he missed the first week with a suspension.
Prediction: Patriots 14, Jets 13
