I went to my first Redskin game last year (Sunday night game in November) and have to admit that attending the home opener is such a better game to attend! Not only because the Skins won, but because it was a 1PM game, the weather was beautiful and my seats were incredible!
Before I get into the magnificence of the experience, I have a couple suggestions for any newbie like me.
Tickets: I bought both sets each time from Stub Hub and had nothing but a positive experience. You can choose your price range and the # of tickets you need and it will show you where those tickets are available on a map. Very helpful. However, the prices are higher by buying them in advance. When I was at the game, the people behind us were fellow Canadians (from Hamilton) and they had called FedEx Field the previous Monday and were told to call back on the Tuesday. They got their tickets for around $70 US cheaper than I did. If you're like me though, I like the comfort of buying well ahead so I'm guaranteed a seat.
Parking: If you don't have season tickets, you don't get a parking permit. You can buy them from other people or from scalpers (we were offered a Green Permit for $80). What we did is went to the Cash Parking just down from the Jericho Church. It was only $35 and there was plenty of space and everyone was tailgating, tossing footballs around, was only a 5 minute walk to the stadium and getting out of there was so much quicker than the congested parking lots as we had our own lane out to the highway.
Walking up to FedEx Field was a blur of burgundy and gold, with people singing “Hail to the Redskins” and others just having the best time. The music was pumping, the BBQ's were smoking, the Bud Lights were foaming. Just unimaginable as a fan.
We found our seats and thought the top of the 100 levels were great, but we kept walking down further and further to row 18 and sat down. I had to take a big breath. These seats were amazing.
The other great thing about our seats was that they were right on the aisle so getting a beer during the game ($8) was easy. During commercial breaks it was really easy to walk down and get some amazing shots of the players. As well having a zoom lens also made for some action shots during the plays.
Leaving the game was as easy and entering. Everyone was annoyed that no touchdowns were scored, but a win is a win and I was happy to have just been part of it.

I lived in Greene County Virginia for about 5 years of my childhood. This span of time was enough to imprint the love of the Washington Redskins (and hate of the Dallas Cowboys) into my life forever, even though I am Canadian and still live in Canada. I am in no way an expert on sports, football, or even the Redskins, but I do absolutely adore them, their fans and their home state(s). My favourite Redskin is and will always be Darrell Green (not because we share the same last name lol). I've adored Chris Cooley since he joined the team from the 2004 draft and love London Fletcher. Hail to the Redskins! See you October 30th in my home town of Toronto.
