A soaking wet Buccaneers fan, his transparent poncho flapping in the monsoon winds, stands alone on the Buccaneer Pirate Ship, completely down trodden and dejected. That's my lasting image from a 24-0 game Sunday in which all Giants fans could relax and enjoy and Tampa fans could hit an emotional rock bottom.
What did we really learn about the Giants? THIS looked like the team many expected to bully opponents with physical play on the line. Or was Tampa just weak?
Much has been made (NY Post for example) of three “cupcakes” in a row which Big Blue will be facing. Having devoured Red Velvet (Tampa) the Giants now get ready for Strawberry Shortcake (KC Chiefs) and Silver n Black Forest (Raiders). Any adult who has attempted to eat three cupcakes in a row knows its a sickening sweet and daunting propositon that requires a lot of coffee. One must assume its the same in football and the Giants will end up blowing one of those games.
The greatest gain from Sunday, apart from the confidence gained from the defense dominating, was a little success in the red zone passing game. Eli's pinpoint strike to Steve Smith in the third quarter marks the end of the tightening up we've seen in these situations earlier this season.
