The Washington Redskins lost last week against the Detroit Lions and played the 0-3 Bucs yesterday, who's QB played his very first NFL game as a starter, so you would think that the Redskins would come out hard and fast on either side of the ball, but that just didn't happen.
The Redskins' first 2 plays on offense were consecutive sacks by the Bucs' D, which ended with a fumbled ball by Campbell, then a TD pass by a rookie QB in his first game in the NFL to take the lead 7-0; This in only 2 minutes. I'm not sure how worse the Redskins could have started the game (having your home crowd boo you within 2 minutes of a game is horrendous). The offensive line was a mess. There was zero running game in the majority of the first half, and 3 turnovers by the Skins. If the Bucs' 2 missed field goals were made, this would be a loss to the Redskins.
1st Half Stats
These are beginning to look like a pattern for the Redskins. The first half is horrible and then the second half sees improvement.
Time of Possession
The second half started with some good D with a D'Angelo Hall interception who then ran it back for a good 20 yards, but can only score a FG to get 3 points. 10-3 Bucs. The offense's only real receiver is TE Chris Cooley who manages to get first downs and then a TD pass from Campbell, however, the extra point is blocked so they could not tie the game. 10-9 Bucs.
The next time the Skins are on offense the first pass is a beautiful 59 yard pass to WR Santana Moss for a TD. No flags. Skins take the lead 16-10. Where and why has this arm not been throwing like this? Blame it on the West Coast offense that Zorn brought over of short passes and little running. This is the second year of Jim Zorn's WCO and it does not seem to be working as efficiently as hoped. There is barely a running game and Campbell seems to do better with the +10 passes to his receivers. Bring this back pronto.
The Bucs manage another FG to bring a hope to their first win of the season, however, the Skins force a fumble with 49 seconds left to give themselves another win.
The following are the game stats for offense. Although Campbell's stats look respectable for a 16 point game win, he also had 3 turnovers!
As for the defence, the numbers would have been respectable for the Redskins if the Bucs numbers weren't placed beside them.

Written by Mercedes Green
I lived in Greene County Virginia for about 5 years of my childhood. This span of time was enough to imprint the love of the Washington Redskins (and hate of the Dallas Cowboys) into my life forever, even though I am Canadian and still live in Canada. I am in no way an expert on sports, football, or even the Redskins, but I do absolutely adore them, their fans and their home state(s). My favourite Redskin is and will always be Darrell Green (not because we share the same last name lol). I've adored Chris Cooley since he joined the team from the 2004 draft and love London Fletcher. Hail to the Redskins! See you October 30th in my home town of Toronto.
