Enigmatic receiver completes first practice with Gang Green
It was no secret that the Jets were looking for a big name wide receiver. Now that they have one, they hope he left his previous bad attitude back in Cleveland.
Braylon Edwards practiced with his new teammates for the first time today and began the process of developing chemistry with new quarterback Mark Sanchez. He also admitted that his focus was not entirely 100% when he was with the Browns.
He should know that, while that sort of situation might have flown in Eric Mangini's Cleveland, he won't be able to give any less than maximum effort under tasklmaster Rex Ryan. Ask anybody on the team, especially promising receiver David Clowney who has been deactivated for two games because he spent too much time “tweeting” for his coach's liking.
It will be curious to see how Edwards fits in with New York. While they wanted to upgrade their receiving corps, they remain a run-first team. Edwards, who once put up 16 touchdowns in Cleveland, is unlikely to have the opportunity to match that number here.
That's all talk for the future, however. For now, the new guy needs to acclimate himself in his new surroundings, get to know his teammates and get up to speed as fast as possible.
Doing all that may require 101% of his effort, so he needs to be prepared to bring it.
