Big Win for the Phins

The Miami Dolphins pulled out a come from behind victory against the New York Jets in an exciting Monday Night Football battle, 31-27.

Miami Dolphins 31 – New York Jets 27

In one of the best games to be played this season, the Miami Dolphins (2-3)  pulled off a must win victory at home on their final drive, beating the New York Jets (3-2), 31 to 27.  Ronnie Brown scored the game winning touchdown with seconds to go, as Miami has reemerged as a top team in the AFC, despite their losing record.  Nobody wants to play Miami right now, as they are one of the hottest ball clubs out there.

The Jets kept it close and led in the fourth, but the Wildcat offense for Miami was too much to handle down the stretch, leaving Jets coach Rex Ryan scrambling for excuses.  New York played a tough game against an even tougher Miami unit, as either team had a turnover in this divisional battle.  Newly acquired Jets receiver Braylon Edwards looks like he has found a productive new home in New York, catching an early touchdown.  Miami on the other hand looks like they have found their quarterback of the future, with Chad Henne dominating in his second NFL game.  The young QB had no turnovers, no sacks, and produced one of the best games of the week, tossing for 241 yards on 20 of 26 passing, with two touchdowns.

The Wildcat offense looked effective once again this week, helping Miami through-out the game, forcing Rex Ryan to reevaluate his guru status against this prolific offensive style.  Ronnie Brown scored two touchdowns in the game, despite only averaging 3.5 yards per rush, but it was runningback Ricky WIlliams who had the best overall game with 144 total yards.  Miami converted on 9 of 14 third down opportunities, and collected 23 first downs on the night, proving to be the winning factor.

The Dolphins racked up 413 total yards on offense, holding the Jets to 309, but more importantly, Miami held New York on third down seven out of eleven times.  Even with a controversial pass interference call late in the game that led to a Jets touchdown, Miami came through in crunch time, scoring 21 fourth quarter points.  After this exciting Dolphins victory, Miami now looks to be back on track and can compete with any team in the league.  The Jets now have two straight losses and really need their defense to step it up, collecting no sacks or interceptions in the game, a rarity for New York.

Hats off to the Dolphins, who looked great across the board against a very formidable opponent.  Miami now has a bye week, and then they will have a tremendous test during week seven, as the undefeated New Orleans Saints come to town.  The Jets must put the pieces back together before they play a struggling Bills squad next week, a game they should win.  But as for Miami, if they can build on this success, everybody better watch out for the Dolphins.
