Celtic’s Davis Is Out Indefinitely

It's the season opener and the Celtics will be without one of their key bench players, Glen “Big Baby” Davis. According to the Boston Globe, Davis was in an altercation with a fellow LSU teammate on Sunday and broke his right thumb. Davis will require surgery in order to repair the damage. He could be out for as much as 2 months. Details of the fight have not been released.

In an interview with Boston local station WFXT, Wyc Grousbeck, co-owner of the Celtics had this to say about the incident.

“We'll deal with it,” Grousbeck told WFXT. “I'm not going to call him 'Big Baby' anymore. He's Glen. He needs to act like Glen. We'll decide what to do once I talk to him, once we talk to him today.”

“It's very likely he'll be suspended. And he'll have some time to think about it. It'll be a message, a teachable moment for the rest of the guys on the team.”

Celtics re-signed Davis in the off season to 2 year/$6 million dollar contract. Language within players' contracts allows for teams to take disciplinary action against a player for fighting.

If the suspension goes through, hopefully it will be a lesson to Davis. He is one of the most liked members of the team by fans. He is a talented, young player with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the injury comes at a terrible time with the season opener tonight and with Kevin Garnett not at a 100%. Coach Rivers will have to change the lineup around a little bit, playing KG and Rasheed Wallace more to start the year and giving Shelden Williams more minutes.
