Randy Jones Claimed By Kings; What It Means For the Flyers Cap Space
Posted By Mike Santa Barbara On Oct 29 2009 @ 4:45 pm In Philadelphia Flyers | 1 Comment
Various sources are reporting that the Los Angeles Kings have claimed Randy Jones off re-entry waivers. Now what does this mean for the Flyers? Well by rule both the Kings and Flyers have to split Jones contract which makes both teams responsible for $1.35 Million each.
Now that would leave the Flyers with very little cap room, in fact they wouldn't have enough to sign a guy to the league minimum.
None of this matters as long as Simon Gagne is on LITR. He makes a little of $5 Mil. this year so the Flyers can exceed that as long as he's hurt. However, they can't go crazy, because if and when Gagne comes back that money has already been reserved for him obviously.
Putting Jones on re-entry waivers made no sense what so ever. And now it doesn't just look curious, it looks down right stupid.
So eventually the Flyers are going to have to do something. Stay tuned…..
