Rumors from various sources are saying that the Los Angeles Kings have claimed Defenseman Randy Jones off re-entry waivers. Now, if this is true the Kings and Flyers must split Jones' contract, $1,375,000.00 each. That will leave the Flyers with very little cap room, in fact they won't even have enough to sign a player to the league minimum.
Now the extent of Simon Gagne's injury will have a lot to do with what the Flyers do next. As long as Gagne is injured the Flyers will have his contract as cap space, which is $5.25 Million.
Now they won't be using all of that, when Gagne returns that cap space is already reserved for him obviously. GM Paul Holmgren will have some work to do now to fix this Randy Jones mess. Having placed him on re-entry waivers is still a head scratching move to me, they had to know if someone claimed him it'd be devastating to their cap number.
