Late field goal dooms Gang Green to another loss
This is getting to be a bad habit.
Jacksonville kicker Josh Scobee booted a 21 yard field goal as time expired to give the Jaguars a 24-22 victory over the Jets on Sunday. Gang Green has now lost five of it's past six games.
There were some positives to take from the game. Quarterback Mark Sanchez threw for 212 yards and his ninth touchdown of the year. Running back Thomas Jones continued his strong season, notching another 77 yards and a touchdown.
However, Rex Ryan's defense failed to contain Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew and it cost them big time. MJD, one of the finest hybrid running/receiving backs in the league, tore Gang Green apart for 145 total yards and a score. Leading receiver Mike sims-Walker was able to shake off the usually oppressive coverage by cornerback Darrelle Revis for 49 receiving yards and a difference making touchdown.
The Jets are now 4-6 and, with games remaining against New England, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Atlanta, have their work cut out for them if they're going to challange for a playoff spot. Next week's game against the Patriots is about as critical a contest as they'll play all year.
Otherwise, they'll have plenty of time in the offseason to figure out how to break the losing habit.
