Seahawks Batter Rams

The Seattle Seahawks got only 102 yards passing from star quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Sunday. That was all they needed in their 27-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Running back Justin Forsett had another great day on the ground, rushing for 130 yards and two scores. The Rams were much more feisty this time around than their Week 1 no-show at Qwest Field at which they were shut out. QB Kyle Boller, filling in for the injured Marc Bulger, threw for 282 yards and a score on this Seahawk defense. However, the former Cal Bear also had two picks, one of which was taken to the house by cornerback Josh Wilson. Rams RB Steven Jackson put in a workman-like performance with 89 yards rushing and a touchdown. Jackson added 29 yards on 5 catches as well.

The loss drops St. Louis to 1-10 and into a 3-way tie for the worst record in the NFL with Cleveland and Tampa Bay. As for the Seahawks, Sunday's win was their fourth(which matches last year's total) and it was just as unimpressive as the other three. The teams Seattle has beaten this season has combined for 8 wins so far and a large portion of that comes from 6-win Jacksonville, who were 2-2 when they caught a 41-0 thumping in Week 5. A win this Sunday against San Francisco would move the 'Hawks into a tie for 2nd in the NFC West but they still have virtually no shot at overtaking Arizona for the division crown. Even if the Cardinals lose Sunday night to the 10-1 Vikings, the Seahawks would still have to make up essentially three games on the defending NFC champions in four weeks. That means Seattle has to run the table on a remaining schedule that will see them go at Houston, at home against Tampa Bay, at Green Bay and then the season finale at home against a suddenly smoking hot Tennessee Titans team. That seems a bit far-fetched given what we've seen so far from Jim Mora's boys.

As for Mora himself, his days may be numbered after just one season in Seattle. Sources are reporting that 'Hawks GM Tim Ruskell will not be retained at the end of the season and rumors are flying that Ruskell's upheaval will mark the return of former head coach Mike Holmgren, this time in his old role as master of all things roster-related. Normally, a new GM(even one like Holmgren, who hired Mora onto his staff a few years back), means a new head coach as well and, while injuries have certianly crippled this team this season, Seattle's disappointing season might have Mora wishing he took that job at the University of Washington.
