Huge win for 'Boys as they upset undefeated New Orleans
Saturday night we had the Dallas Cowboys visiting New Orleans to play the undefeated New Orleans Saints. For those of you who do not know the score, Dallas 24, New Orleans 17. No, this is not a typo; the Cowboys did go into NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) and win the ball game.
The Cowboys now sit at 9-5 and can control their destiny by continuing to win football games and hope to hold a wild card berth for the playoffs. The great news here is the Cowboys won a game in December. Everyone was all over their lack of December wins but it is a nice load to get off their shoulders with the victory.
The Cowboys sit one game behind the division leading Philadelphia Eagles and one game up on the New York ‘football’ Giants who play tonight in Washington DC.
Saturday’s game was a great football game for the Cowboys. They got the lead early and held onto the lead. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo played a very solid game and kept the time of possession in favour of the Cowboys 36:26 to 23:34, a huge factor. The Cowboys showed they can play with the top teams in the NFL and clearly New Orleans has showed they are a top team in the NFL. In fact as my pre-game blog stated both the Cowboys and Saints play a similar style of football. Dallas ran the ball well and kudos to Marion Barber who crammed that ball into the end zone twice on short yardage. Dallas wide receiver (and of late Romo’s favourite) Miles Austin had the other Dallas score.
My game ball goes to Dallas defensive lineman DeMarcus Ware who forced two fumbles both of which the Cowboys recovered. After seeing Ware get carted off the field the week before who would have ever guessed he was going to come back and play this week with such a vengeance.
Still two weeks left and it segways me into Dallas kicker Nick Folk who many are very surprised he still has a job right now. Folk, who last year was winning games for the Cowboys seems to have lost his touch that made him such a great kicker. I will leave it at that but lets hope Folk can find his feet/foot before we hope post-season play.
Every play is going to mean something in the remaining two games for the Cowboys. Next week is late game in Washington followed by a HUGE game to end the season against the Eagles in Dallas to potentially have first place in the NFC East on the line.
Merry Christmas to all, as always comment, questions, concerns….see ya later in the week….Ho-Ho-HO!!!!!!!!, my Santa impression.
