Broncos Rally from Behind, but Lose by a Field Goal to Eagles, 30-27

Denver came back after trailing 27-10 to tie up the ballgame, but Philadelphia was too much to handle at home, as Eagles win in a close one, 30-27

Denver Broncos (27) @ Philadelphia Eagles (30)

Denver hung in there to the bitter end, only to find themselves and Brain Dawkins return to Philadelphia result in a bitter ending.  The Eagles jumped out to a huge lead early, but Kyle Orton refused to give up and helped his team tie up the game at 27 with six minutes to go.  The Eagles ended up finishing strong and won with a game winning David Akers field goal.

In what appeared to be an Eagles victory from the get go, the Broncos resilience on the road made it a ballgame.  Orton helped the Broncos tie up the game with three passing touchdowns, but it was not enough to stop this talented Eagles offense from scoring on their final drive.

Denver was outmatched statistically in the game, getting smashed in first downs accumulated, total yards, and penalty yards.  Brian Dawkins did what he could to get the Broncos ready to play, but the Eagles responded immediately to let their former teammate know that they were going to win this battle.

Denver didn’t do enough on offense or defense to get the job done on the road, but they did prove once again that they were able to compete with an elite team.  This was mandatory, considering their frustrating loss to division rival Oakland.  Denver has now created a must-win next week against the Chiefs to keep their playoff aspirations a reality.

If Denver somehow manages to lose to Kansas City next week, despite the win-loss scenarios they would need to transpire to give them a shot, they honestly don’t deserve to be in the playoffs.  They have been playing with their own destiny in their hands, but after two straight losses, they now are offering their spot to another club.

Denver should beat Kansas City again and should be in the playoffs this season, especially considering their 6-0 start.  But now they are resting their fate in the hands of a bitter Chiefs team who would love nothing more than to keep the Broncos out of the postseason.  But despite their second half collapse, Josh McDaniels and his Broncos will not let that happen.

Fortunately for Denver, despite another close loss, they did a lot of good against an Eagles team that could very well be Super Bowl bound if things fall their way come January.  Denver proved that they can pass the ball, they can play tough defense, and they are capable of winning a tough road game.  But for Denver to pull it off this season, they will need some of that first half of the season luck to play back in their favor.
