The Ducks won their fifth straight Wednesday night against the Bruins, thanks to Jonas Hiller. The Swiss tender earned his fourth straight win in as many starts, going 4-0 and a 1.81 GAA in that stretch. “Our goaltender played well,” said Ryan Getzlaf, who tied the game at 3-3 early in the third period.
The Ducks came back from one goal deficits twice on Wednesday, which is not an easy task against a tight defensive team like the Bruins. After Getzlaf scored his 100th career goal to tie the game, Steve Eminger, an unsung hero, gave the Ducks the game winner with a late third period goal.
The win did not come at an easy price. Teemu Selanne took a deflected point shot from Ryan Whitney to the face. He is reported to have a broken jaw and is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday. Coach Carlyle said that he is not sure when the veteran sniper will be back, saying that he will be: “unavailable for a number of days, weeks here going forward.”
The current five game winning streak leaves the Ducks in 12th place but only 4 points back of the 8th place Kings, who they play on Thursday night at the Staples Center.
