The Ottawa Senators extended their season high win streak to seven games with a commanding 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils tonight at Scotiabank Place.
In the process, Ottawa defeated the Devils for the first time this year after losing their three previous meetings with the Atlantic Division leaders. The Sens had lost 9 in a row to the Devils, extending over two and a half years of play.
Brian Elliott led the way with his third shutout of the season after being named the NHL's First Star of the Week.
Jason Spezza, Milan Michalek and Alex Kovalev were the Sens goalscorers on a night which saw Ottawa play a complete game from start to finish, even though they were outshot 24-18.
The Sens finally dominated in the faceoff circle and outhit the Devils 36-30, with Fisher leading the way with eight hits and Volchenkov with five hits.
Erik Karlsson had another strong game on defense as the rookie compiled three shots on goal and ending up a plus two with almost twenty minutes of icetime.
Ottawa travels to Pittsburgh on Thursday night to take on the defending Stanley Cup champs with visions of extending their win streak to eight games.
Martin Brodeur was pulled by head coach Jacques Lemaire in favour of Yann Denis after the second period. He allowed three goals on twelve shots.
