Randy Sexton promised changes, sending Dominic Moore to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2nd round pick on the same night that the Panthers lose their 5th straight game, falling 3-0 to Vancouver Cannucks.
5 straight losses. Last nights game was hard to watch. Cannucks goalie, Roberto Luongo, got beat 6 times but no one beats the post. I guess thats the way things go when you're in an extended losing streak like the Panthers are right now. The effort was there but no reward. No goals, no points, nothing. February has been consistently terrible for this club.
The Panthers played well at times, taking 35 shots, finishing checks, and battling down low but yet again failed to find the back of the net. Florida went 0-7 on the power play. How in God's name do you go on 7 power plays, including a 5 on 3 for over a minute and not bury at least one shot?? Florida is 0-17 in their past 3 games on the power play. Can we start declining penalties in the NHL like they do in football??
“Yes, you heard right ref, we want to decline the penalty…you can't do that??? Are you sure?? Call Toronto, see what they have to say.”
Alexandre Burrows, Ryan Kesler and Jannik Hansen scored for the Cannucks. The heartbreaker was the short handed goal by Hansen in the second period after Dennis Seidenberg and Steven Reinprecht both overskated the puck in the offensive zone. It was off to the races for Hansen and a 2-0 lead for the Cannucks.
Deboer switched up the lines again, but to no avail. Booth, Weiss and Stillman again got their chances. And again Shawn Matthias looked awesome out there. But yet again no reward.
I really don't know what to say anymore. The team plays flat and uninspired and they lose. The team plays with effort and battles and they lose. Can someone on this team win a face off when it matters? Can some one on this team score a goal when it matters? Its time for a change across 4 lines. Get randy, Randy.
FORMER VS CURRENT:
Nick Tarnasky took on former Panther, and fan favorite, Tanner Glass in the first period of last night's game. Tarnasky came out the victor and even tore the back of Glass' jersey causing him to leave the ice and fetch a new one.
Since the Panthers became familiar with the posts in last night's contest, I'd thought we'd take a deeper look.
The goal posts shall be kept in position by means of flexible pegs affixed in the ice or floor. The flexible pegs shall be ten inches (10″) in length and light green in color.
The goal posts shall be of approved design and material, extending vertically four feet (4') above the surface of the ice and set six feet (6') apart measured from the inside of the posts. A crossbar of the same material as the goal posts shall extend from the top of one post to the top of the other. See diagram on page v preceding table of contents.
The goal posts and crossbar shall be painted in red and all other exterior surfaces shall be painted in white.
WATCH YOUR MOUTH:
Rustislav Olesz dressed and sat on the bench the entire game with a broken hand. He did, however, serve a bench minor for “abusive language.” Pete DeBoer told the ref's he was saying “shoot” as in “shoot the puck”, but apparently they heard a different vowel than “o” in between the “sh” and “t.”
Dominic Moore was sent packing to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2nd round draft pick in 2011. My opinion, Montreal got hosed. Somewhere in the Bank Atlantic Center last night, Randy Sexton muttered in Jacques Martin direction “Now I am the Master.”
Seidenberg, Leopold, Horton, Olesz and even David Booth have had their names mentioned in the rumor mills of late. Lets see what happens before the Olympic trade freeze at 3 PM today.
Panther close out play before the Olympic break with the Boston Bruins, Saturday night. Puck drops at 7 PM.
IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW:
I ordered this thing on a whim at 2 in morning. I'll let you know if it works when I get it.
