Last nights win over the Buffalo Sabre gives the Carolina Hurricanes yet another 4 game winning streak, and pushes the team to a 9-3 record since Staal was named captain.
With 2 goals and 4 assists between them, the unlikely trio of Sergei Samsonov, Brand Sutter and Tuomo Ruutu led the Hurricanes to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Buffalo Sabres. a couple quick notes about the game:
- Bad Deflections: Both of Derek Roys goals came off of unlucky bounces off of Carolina defensemen. Had those bounces gone other directions, this would be a much different game, on fact, it wouldn't even be close.
- How far along has Brandon Sutter come? Last season this kid was struggling to prove he belonged in the NHL. Now, he's been a key piece in the Canes recent success, helping drive the offense and providing very solid two-way play.
- How does Manny Legace win games? In all honesty when you're used to watching Cam Ward play, Legace looks like a schizophrenic rag doll in comparison. But he is winning games, and that's the important bit.
This win moves the Hurricanes to 10 points out of a playoff spot, meaning that while they do have a shot at the post season, it's very very slim.
Hurricanes next action, and last game before the Olympics (Which FOUR Hurricanes are attending) will be on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils. Justin Peters will get the start, we'll see if he can improve on his NHL Career .971 save percentage.
Until then, Adieu, Caniacs.
