Robinson is Officially a Celtic

The Celtics and Knicks have officially agreed to a deal that will send Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry to Boston in exchange for Eddie House, Bill Walker, and J.R. Giddens. Robinson was brought in to be the back up to Rajon Rondo and provide some needed offense coming off the bench. This is a solid move by Danny Ainge. I was hoping for a blockbuster deal involving Ray Allen for an offensive forward, but no deal could be made.

Robinson is averaging 13.2 ppg and 3.7 apg. He's young and athletic, winning the slam dunk competition 3 years in a row. However, with youth comes immaturity. Robinson and his head coach, Mike D'Antoni have not always seen eye to eye. D'Antoni benched the point guard for close to a month. Robinson's first game back he scored 41 points. Also in 2009, Robinson was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Robinson will not be allowed to get away with any antics while under the watch of Coach Rivers and the veteran players. Rivers, an ex point guard, has done a great job with Rajon Rondo and may be able repeat the same success with Robinson. This season, there has been a real drop off at pg when Rondo is not on the floor. The Celtics have tried just about everybody at the point but have not been successful. With Robinson at the one, this will allow Marquis Daniels to spot up more and get his shot off.

Ray Allen is still a Celtic. This may not be the worst thing for the Boston. Allen will win a game or two for the Celtics come playoff time. Allen has played a lot of minutes this season because of injuries to other starters. With the team healthy, Allen will be able to play less minutes.

Boston is in the middle of a critical west coast trip. Tonight they play the Lakers in a must win. If they want to be the best, they have to beat the best even if the Lakers are without Kobe. If the Celtics can string together a few wins on the road, maybe they can carry the momentum at home.
