Hello everybody, I will be doing a live blog for tonight's game between USA and Canada. Be sure to check back during the game and let me know your thoughts.
This is arguably the most anticipated matchup of the preliminary rounds. A three point win for the Americans would give them a first round bye into the quarterfinals.
This game comes down to a lot more than just seeding. A win for either team will come with great pride as this is a rivalry known to bring out the best in both teams. The winner will get an unbelievable boost in confidence — as well as a valuable trip to the quarterfinals, while the loser will have precious time to do some serious regrouping.
Team U.S.A. leads the Canadiens by one point in the standings, but many fans are wondering if the Americans can hold off the highly powered offense of Canada. Ryan Miller will be at one end, while Martin Brodeur will be at the other. It certainly makes for a spectacular goaltending matchup.
There will also be a number of teammates playing against each other. Brodeur will face Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise, while Sidney Crosby will face Brooks Orpik. Those are just a few of the teammates competing against each other as both teams bring in 23 NHL players.

Before the game starts, huge thumbs down to NBC for showing figure skating (ice dancing?!?!?) instead of this massive game.Thanfully MSNBC is in HD on my cable.

Just incredible that this is allowed to happen. It would be one thing if NBC never showed hockey but for crying out loud they are the ones with the NHL TV Contract, what a great way to increase your ratings, therefore increasing your worth when seeking advertising dollars.

Great point on the Czech game, if the Sharks lose Nabokov they are screwed!!

With NBC, it's just like most companies that are borderline successful as it's all about how much money can be made now without an eye on the potential dollars earned both now AND in the future.

I don't understand why they try to fit commercials between stoppages of play. This is very obnoxious and I hate them cutting back into play already going on. Why not load up on commercials during the intermission because nobody honestly cares about JR and Milbury dumbing down random plays and them highlighting Crosby and Ovechkin. When Ovechkin hit Jagr, they didn't even really care about the goal that was scored afterward…
