MIAMI DOLPHINS LATEST 2010 OFFSEASON NEWS

The Dolphins look to build on their youth movement in the draft, as well as hosting guard Richie Incognito in an effort to strengthen the interior offensive line.

The Dolphins are looking to add some more talent to the offensive line and will do so by bringing guard Richie Incognito, 26, to Miami for a visit.  Incognito would be a flexible addition to the offensive line, though his on the field tactics have led to numerous fines while playing for St. Louis.

Miami, who finished the league ranked 22nd in defense, signed free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby to a five-year, $43 million dollar contract, including $22 million guaranteed.  Dansby will replace middle linebacker Channing Crowder in an effort to strengthen the run defense.

The Dolphins released Joey Porter, Akin Ayodele, and Gibril Wilson early in March.  The signing of Dansby trumps the losses of Porter and Ayodele, but the Dolphins have been unable to lure in a new safety to replace Wilson.  Miami had their eye on safeties Ryan Clark and Antrel Rolle, but were unable to sign either player.

Chad Pennington was resigned by Miami to shore up the teams depth at quarterback.  Chad Henne, Pennington’s replacement due to injury last season, played well and will return as the starting quarterback.  But if Henne is unable to get the job done next season, Miami will have a strong veteran backup ready to take the field.  Pennington inked a one year deal worth $2.5 million, and will make an additional $1.515 million if Miami decides to trade the vet.

The Dolphins also resigned nose tackle Jason Ferguson, 35, despite an eight-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.  Ferguson, coming off of a major surgery, will be allowed to practice and play in pre-season games.

In the draft, the Dolphins will focus on finding some young talent to step in at defensive tackle (mainly due to Ferguson’s eight-game suspension), wide-receiver (a steady weak point of this offense), and free safety (now that Wilson is no longer on the roster).  Miami has one of the best draft guru’s in Bill Parcells who will look to work his magic yet once again in this year’s draft.  What the Phins decide to do with that No. 12 pick in the draft will most certainly remain a mystery.
