I’m not going to get into a long winded blog about the Flames 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings last night, because to be blunt I can sum it up fairly easily. 1) Detroit out worked Calgary. 2) Miikka Kiprusoff was the only reason this game was close. 3) Craig Conroy was the Flames best player other than Kipper. If you take these three points it doesn’t take much imagination to figure out why they lost.
The big concern to me is the fact that the leadership group with the possible exception of Regher, just have not stepped up in the last two games. Jarome Iginla has gone back to seemingly being content to float and allow his team mates to try and make all the plays while he finds some “open ice” I for one have no idea how to fix this problem or if the Sutter’s consider it a problem.
Point blank the Flames likely need to go 8-5 over their last 13 games to have a shot at the playoffs. that will be a tall order but they can do themselves a favor if they beat Colorado twice. And the Flames will have that chance Wednesday against the Avalanche. You lose this gam’e and the season is likely lost. My message to the Flames is ‘play your best game of the year, or forget about the rest of the season.”
Have a good one!
