Just a quick note for tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. The Chicago Blackhawks have re-called Corey Crawford due to Christobal Huet being ill with the Flu. One would expect Antii Niemi to get the start tonight but that is not the case, instead it will be Crawford who will start in goal tonight who actually shut out the Ducks approximately 2 years ago. Can he do the same thing? We shall see. I disagree with Crawford starting because what message does this send Niemi? However, if it works FINE my hats off to you Q but I question your decisions for our goal-tending for this entire year.
Much discussion will become of this unless a statement is made by Hawks management or coaching staff on the goaltending situation in Hawkland.
Quick Questions for Q (QQQ) that I would like him to answer, instead I will give my take.
Is Crawford starting because of one good game he played against the Ducks a mere 2 years ago?
Is Niemi also feeling under the weather therefore Crawford gets the start?
Doubt it again but you know the NHL they keep everything a secret, It’s surprising they let everyone know that Huet had the flu.
If Crawford plays extraordinary well does he get back to back starts?
Can’t see it but hey It’s Chicago you just don’t know.
If he plays back to back does this now move it to a 3 way goal-tending controversy instead of just 2?
It makes no sense for this to happen, everyone talks about experience and really with all 3 goalies there is not much there. With whatever confidence Niemi and Huet have now will surely be dissipated with Crawford coming into play.
If Crawford posts a shutout why not run with the hot goalie?
Simply because Quenneville has not done that up to just prior to Olympics. How many times did Niemi get back to back starts after posting a solid effort?
In ending, I am sure it makes many people wonder what in the heck Q is doing with our goal-tending situation not giving back to back starts when one of Huet or Niemi plays extremely well. Q just keeps flip flopping them for the majority of the season and then throws Niemi in for 5 straight, yanks him in a game where he had little chance on any of the goals and goes back to game by game rotation. Enter Corey Crawford now…yikes…. the bottom line is the Hawks need some wins desperately to get out of this funk and I think all Hawk fans realize no lead is safe.
Quick edit from a quote from coach Q:
“It’s just a chance for him to get to play. He’s played well for a real segment of games down there … We’re only looking at him one game and then we’ll see.”
Now is this the time to bring in another goalie nearing the ending of a regular season throwing more thoughts into the surely bobbleheaded Niemi and Crawford? Note the final part of his quote saying “we’re only looking at him one game and then we’ll see.” This to me means the door is open “somewhat” for Crawford to steal the show. Oh Coach Q what are you doing?
Thanks for reading,
