On Friday the Wings traveled to Edmonton to take on the last place, eliminated Oilers and expected to walk all over the last place team, however this was not to be on this night. The Oilers came out with 2 quick goals in the first and the wings looked to be in trouble, half way through the second the Wings would pull the lead to 1 with a goal by Patrick Eaves at 11:51 then with less then 1 second to spare Brian Rafalski would net his 7th on the season and tie the game. A shootout would have to decide this one only using the regular 3 shooters each, Justin Williams would get the only goal for Detroit as Datsyuk and Filppula would fail to net the puck against rookie goalie Dubnyk giving him his first NHL win.
On Saturday the Wings would travel to the Olympic City of Vancouver to have at it with the Canucks. This one would again start 2-0 against the Wings, however in the second 3 un-answered goals by Bertuzzi, Datsyuk, and Filppula(I guess they made up for there shootout misses)would each net one giving the lead to the Wings after 2. Daniel Sedin would then tie early in the 3rd ties the game at 3 they would need OT, once again a heroic effort by Henrik Zetterburg would give the Wings the win this time with .3 seconds on the clock in OT Zetterburg would net his 20th and give Detroit a much needed win.
After this weekend Detroit still sits in 8th spot, with 2 points on Calgary, Colorado has now dropped to 7th place at 86 points with Detroit then trailing by 3. Detroit is currently matched up to play Chicago, this would be one match-up i would worry about as a Wing fan with Chicago having another awesome season. Once again time will tell.
